Rishabh Pant is making a return to the Test side after his absence following a car accident in December 2022, as India unveiled their squad for the upcoming match against Bangladesh. Notably, Mohammed Shami will not be part of the team as he continues to recover from an ankle surgery. On the flip side, left-arm seamer Yash Dayal has earned his first Test call-up, a strategic move in preparation for the upcoming five-Test series in Australia.
The 16-member squad also marks the comeback of KL Rahul, who missed the England series due to injury after the first Test. Akash Deep, who showed promise in his debut during the same series, retains his spot following an impressive performance in the Duleep Trophy match in Bengaluru, where he secured nine wickets. Despite setbacks, Rahul showcased his skills in the Duleep Trophy game, contributing significantly with the bat.
In the same fixture, Dayal exhibited his prowess by claiming three crucial wickets in the fourth innings, aiding India B in a decisive victory. With a solid record of 76 wickets in 24 first-class games at an average of 28.89, Dayal brings valuable experience to the squad. Dhruv Jurel, another promising talent, also finds a spot as the second wicket-keeper, following his impressive debut against England.
Looking ahead, stalwarts Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are anticipated to spearhead the pace department, while the spin options include R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. The first Test against Bangladesh is scheduled for September 19 in Chennai, followed by the second Test in Kanpur on September 27, with a series of three T20Is set to follow, promising an action-packed cricketing season for the fans.
