Rod Marsh passed away at 74 after suffering a major heart attack at a charity event a week ago. He was rushed to a hospital in Adelaide by the organisers, where he died peacefully this morning.
Marsh, no less than a legend, played 96 Test matches for Australia after making his debut in 1970 against England. He amassed 3,663 runs, scored three hundreds, and at one point held the world record of 355 Test dismissals. He was the first Australian wicketkeeper to score a Test hundred. 'This is a tremendously sad day for Australian cricket and for all those who loved and admired Rod Marsh,' said Cricket Australia chairman Dr Lachlan Henderson. 'Rod will be forever remembered for the way he played the game and the pleasure he brought crowds as a member of some great Australian teams. 'Caught Marsh, bowled Lillee' has iconic status in our game.'
Marsh also served as a member of the selection panel from 2014 to 2016, and was inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009.
