Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Faf du Plessis as their new captain for Indian Premier League 2022. Du Plessis will succeed Virat Kohli, who stepped down from the captaincy last year.
'I can't be happier for the team and Faf. He is a good friend and we get along very well. Looking forward to a good season,' said Kohli on du Plessis' appointment.
Du Plessis has had a very successful stint with Chennai Super Kings. His 86 in the final helped them beat Kolkata Knight Riders last year. Chennai decided to release him ahead of this year's mega auction, and he was eventually acquired by Bangalore for INR 7 crores.
Du Plessis has led several T20 franchises across the world, including St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St Lucia Kings. He also captained South Africa in 115 matches across formats.
In their opening encounter of IPL 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be taking on Punjab Kings at DY Patil Stadium on 27 March.
