Jasprit Bumrah, who was forced to withdraw from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia that gets underway on Sunday, has been replaced by veteran pacer Mohammed Shami by the national selectors. On October 23, India will face off against Pakistan, their bitter adversary.

"Mohammed Shami has been selected by the All-India Senior Selection Committee to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian team for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Shami has arrived in Australia and will meet the team in Brisbane prior to the exhibition games "Jay Shah, the honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), provided the information in a release on Friday.

The announcement further stated that Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur, who have been designated as backups, will soon depart for Australia.

Bumrah initially had a back issue that prevented him from playing in the most recent three-match T20I series against South Africa.

Bumrah, 28, missed the Asia Cup because of a back injury he sustained earlier in the month. He came back for India's three-match T20I Series against Australia, which they won 2-1. In two of those games, he recorded a wicket.

The fast bowler was later disqualified from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad by the BCCI Medical team. After careful consideration and consultation with the experts, the choice was made.
