Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African pacer Sisanda Magala to replace New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson in the Indian Premier League's 16th season (IPL).
Jamieson, who was ruled out of the tournament due to injury, was purchased by the franchise for INR 1 crore, according to an announcement made by the IPL Governing Council on Sunday.
Magala, Jamieson's replacement, has extensive experience in the game's shortest format. Despite having only played four T20Is for South Africa, Magala has a reputation for being a consistent wicket-taker in domestic T20 games over the years. He will join CSK for a base salary of INR 50 lakh.
The IPL 2023 season will kick off on March 31 with Gujarat Giants hosting Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The final will take place in Ahmedabad on May 28.
Magala is the second player to be signed as a replacement for an IPL team.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have signed Michael Bracewell from New Zealand as a replacement for England batter Will Jacks.
