A five-wicket haul from Kagiso Rabada followed by half-centuries from Quinton de Kock and Kyle Verreynne helped South Africa chase 195 in 37.2 overs against Bangladesh to win by seven wickets and level the series.
A lot was expected of Bangladesh after they won their first ever ODI in this country a couple of days ago, but they failed to step up to the occasion. Losing five wickets for just 34 was too big a setback to overcome.
Lungi Ngidi broke through early, getting Tamim Iqbal in the third over. Shakib Al Hasan, who played a crucial role in the last game, fell to Rabada for a six-ball duck. Rabada had Yasir Ali as well, caught by Keshav Maharaj.
Before limping off the field due to an injury, Wayne Parnell pinned Mushfiqur Rahim leg-before to reduce Bangladesh to 34/5. Mahmudullah and Afif Hossain added 60 before the former fell to Tabraiz Shamsi for 25. Afif then added 86 with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38) to drive Bangladesh 194/9. He top-scored with 72.
An opening stand worth 86 between Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock set the tone for South Africa. While Malan played cautiously for his 40-ball 26, de Kock slammed 62 in 41 balls with nine fours and two sixes. Verreynne then remained unbeaten on 58 to propel his team to an easy victory.
