Persistent rain washed out Day 2 of the first Test match between Indian and South Africa, at Centurion, without a ball being bowled. There was overnight shower and intermittent rain during the first two sessions of Monday, following which the umpires had no option but to call for early stumps.
However, things look promising on Day 3. According to local met department, one can expect sunny, pleasant weather during the playing hours, with the temperature hovering around 27 degrees. However, there may be clouds in the afternoon, but there is possibility of rain throughout the day.
There will be an early start to make up for the lost overs in the game. India, on 272/3, will push for quick runs early in the day. In K.L. Rahul (122*), Ajinkya Rahane (40*), Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur, they have men cut out for that.
A first-innings score around 400 should make India feel comfortable under the circumstances. Of course, they will want to have enough time to take 20 wickets.
South Africa, on the other hand, would not have minded a day being washed out. They are behind in this Test match, and can approach the remaining part of this match at their own pace.
Fantasy tips
- If there is any play during the day, expect bowlers to have their say with little bit of moisture on the surface.
- Back Rahane to come up with a significant contribution.
- Under testing conditions for the batters, do not rule out a middle-order collapse for India.
