South Africa will host West Indies for the second ODI of the four-match series, at Wanderers in Johannesburg. West Indies were in control of the first ODI until rain played spoilsport, forcing abandonment without result.
Head coach Courtney Walsh had asked the batting unit to step up as a whole more consistently after the West Indies were bowled out for 202 in the warm-up game. In the first ODI, they were lifted by an unbeaten 158 (18 fours, 4 sixes) from Deandra Dottin to post 234/3 in 45.3 overs. Hayley Matthews scored 51 as well.
During the innings, Stafanie Taylor retired hurt after playing 17 balls. There is no confirmation over her availability yet.
South Africa, on the other hand, were lucky to not lose the first game. They lost five wickets for 87 before rain stopped play. The absence of Lizelle Lee and Dane van Niekerk have reduced their batting prowess. Tazmin Brits opened batting along with Laura Wolvaardt, and should continue to do so, while Mignon du Preez, Lara Goodall, Chloe Tryon, and Sune Luus wll form the backbone of the middle-order.
