As per Newswire, Danushka Gunathilaka informed Sri Lanka Cricket that he would retire from Test Cricket with immediate effect to stay focused on his fitness levels for the limited-overs cricket.
‘It has always been an honour to play for my country and I hope to contribute to the best of my ability in the future by continuing to represent Sri Lanka whenever I am called upon to do so’, Gunathilaka told Newswire.
Gunathilaka last played a Test match in December 2018, against New Zealand at Christchurch. Overall, he played eight Tests, aggregating 597 runs at 18.68. He has also played 44 ODIs and 30 T20Is so far, scoring 1,520 and 568 runs respectively.
Since last June, Gunathilaka, along with Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella, had been serving a 12-month ban from international cricket after he breached a bio-secure bubble in Durham. All three are eligible to return in action five months earlier after SLC decided to lift their suspensions.
