Three Sri Lankan cricketers have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of their match against the Netherlands in the Women's World Cup Qualifier. The match, however, will go on as scheduled, on Tuesday, 23 November.
The test was conducted after one of the players showed mild symptoms. All three are now under the observation of the medical team, while the rest of the squad is under isolation as a safety measure. They will have to undergo another round of testing before being eligible to participate.
'We have playing squads of 15 at the event, which allows for injuries and illness, including COVID-19 to be managed, and in addition teams have had the option of bringing travelling reserves with them,' Said ICC head of events Chris Tetley.
Sri Lanka are pooled in Group A, alongside the Netherlands, West Indies, and Ireland. The top three sides will qualify for the Super 6s. The ICC Women's World Cup will take place in New Zealand next year. England, India, South Africa, Australia, and hosts New Zealand have already qualified for the event.
