India played its first Test match cricket in 1932. 88 years since they first played international cricket, Indians have come to be known as a batting team, producing several distinguished batsmen over the years.
Having played cricket in all major countries till date, we take a glance at the Indians with most runs in each of the major Test playing countries and the current players who might be able to usurp some of those leading scorers.
Host country | Player | Runs |
Australia | Tendulkar | 3300 |
Bangladesh | Tendulkar | 1647 |
England | Dravid | 2645 |
India | Tendulkar | 14192 |
New Zealand | Tendulkar | 1663 |
Pakistan | Sehwag | 1316 |
South Africa | Tendulkar | 2624 |
Sri Lanka | Tendulkar | 2686 |
UAE | Tendulkar | 1778 |
West Indies | Dravid | 1919 |
Zimbabwe | Tendulkar | 813 |
As is expected, Sachin Tendulkar dominates the list, topping the run charts across formats in all but three countries – England, West Indies and Pakistan. Rahul Dravid dominates the list in West Indies and England, although both records are susceptible at this point to players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli if they do maintain their purple patch.
Virender Sehwag’s record of 1316 runs in Pakistan is one record that is almost invincible given the state of cricket between the two countries. Even if in the future, India do play Pakistan, it is very unlikely that Pakistan will host that game given the security issues in the country.
Tendulkar’s record in Australia – a whopping 3300 runs – is susceptible because Virat Kohli has 2745 runs in the country already and averages much better than the former Indian great.
