Star Australian cricketer Steve Smith has joined the expert panel of Star Sports, the IPL 2023's official television broadcasters, for the cash-rich league, which begins on March 31.
Smith will make his Star Sports broadcast debut, bringing valuable insights and expertise.
On Monday, the 33-year-old cricketer posted a video on Twitter, saying, "Hello, India. I have some exciting news to share with you. I'll be playing in the IPL 2023. In India, I will be joining an exceptional and passionate team."
The video quickly went viral, attracting a lot of attention from fans. On Tuesday, it was announced that he will serve as an expert in the IPL 2023.
"I believe I have a good understanding of the game, so hopefully there will be some useful insights for everyone watching the IPL out there. I'm very excited to be a part of the Star Sports Te'm, and I'm looking forward to this new experience "Smith was quoted as saying in a Star Sports media release.
Smith, who has played in two World Cups for Australia, is the only overseas player to have captained the legendary M.S. Dhoni in an IPL season, where they reached the final for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017.
Notably, Smith did not take part in the Kochi mini-player auction in December 2022. He previously played in the IPL for the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Pune Warriors India, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
The much-anticipated IPL 2023 will kick off on March 31 in Ahmedabad with a match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
