India won their second ODI World Cup title in 2011 at home under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Losing only one game throughout the tournament – to South Africa in the league stages – India beat Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the knockouts, in that very order, to win their second title.
Suresh Raina, who was part of the winning team, revealed that Sachin Tendulkar played a major role in India’s title win.
Raina felt Tendulkar was key to India’s success, since he acted as a second coach with Gary Kirsten in the helm.
“With Sachin, it’s always about his calmness. It was because of Sachin that we won the World Cup. He was the guy who made everyone in the team believe that we can do that. He was like the second coach in the team,” Raina told Khaleej Times.
Tendulkar played some outstanding knocks in the World Cup but was soon dismissed in the finals by Lasith Malinga. He ended as the second-highest run-scorer with 482 runs from nine matches.
