India will take on Pakistan in their first match of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 23 October in a Super 12 fixture. The ICC announced the schedule on 21 January. Hosts and defending champions Australia will feature in the tournament opener, against New Zealand, in a repeat of last year’s final.
The World Cup will start on 16 October. As with 2016 and 2021, it will feature two rounds. The first round will consist of eight teams, pooled into two groups. Sri Lanka, Namibia, Scotland, and the West Indies have already booked their places in the first round, while the other four will join from the qualifiers. The top two sides from each group in the first round will advance into the Super 12 stage.
