The fifth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, which was scheduled to begin from June 10 this year, has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The upcoming edition was set to be an eight-team competition, with the final taking place on July 10, 2020, However, the TNPL can still be hosted until September 15, and it remains to be seen whether the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) host it behind closed doors.
“The revised schedule will be released in due course,” the TNCA issued a statement on Monday.
“We have to wait and watch. Maybe the tournament will be postponed by two-three weeks depending on the lockdown,” said a source to The New Indian Express.
The last edition of the TNPL had taken place from mid of July till mid of August, with Chepauk Super Gillies, led by Kaushik Gandhi, winning the title. They had defeated the Narayan Jagadeesan-led Dindigul Dragons by 12 runs in the summit clash.
The TNPL is yet another sporting event that had to be postponed due to the Covid 19 outbreak and the lockdown that has followed all over the world. Events like ‘The Hundred’, and the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League have already been postponed, with serious question marks hovering over the staging of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
