Australia won their second consecutive win at SCG in the span of two days to take a 2-0 unassailable lead in the ODI series. After winning the toss, Australia captain Aaron Finch decided to bat first, yet again. And it proved out to be exactly what they wanted. The hosts posted 389 runs in 50 overs, courtesy of their top five.
While Warner, Finch, Labuschagne and Maxwell all scored impressive half centuries, Steve Smith continued his sensational form by scoring yet another century. It was an almost impossible task, but India gave it a fight and lost by only 51 runs.
This was India’s 5th consecutive ODI defeat and 7th consecutive internati0nal match defeat. They had been whitewashed in the ODI and Test series by the kiwis when they travelled to the southern hemisphere earlier this year.
All of this called for a typical day at office for the Twitterati.
Steve Smith who was at his classy best was lauded by the whole social media. Former cricketer turned commentator, Aakash Chopra’s tweet for Australia’s number three truly summed up how good he is.
Nothing to add 🙏🙇♂️ #Smith #AusvInd pic.twitter.com/HlCysvTcpc

Glenn Maxwell who didn’t hit a single six in IPL 2020 was once again at the very centre of Australia’s destruction of India bowlers. Former India batsman and one of the most integral member of the KXIP support staff, Wasim Jaffer just had to come up with his witty response to Maxwell’s innings.

It was yet another frustrating day out for Indian bowlers and Jasprit Bumrah’s reaction on field shows the same.
A very frustrated Jasprit Bumrah has now kicked two of the 30-yard fielding markers away with great angst. Not a good look this #ausvind @cricbuzz pic.twitter.com/ZbPSJEYJSe

It became so monontonous that some may have confused the second ODI for the first match.
Yeh aaj wala match hai yaa parso waala hee telecast ho raha hai. #INDvsAUS

Captain Virat Kohli played a superb knock, one that kept India’s hopes and chances alive in the game. Something which was well defined by his IPL franchise, RCB through their Twitter handle.
“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” A famous quote from Shawshank Redemption. As long as we have @imVkohli at the crease, we have hope. 🤞🏼
Top half-century from the captain. 👑 Job not done yet.#PlayBold #WeAreChallengers #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/e1D6tfbSIW

But once he got out, later followed by the wickets of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya the hopes were all shattered.

It has been a tough start to a long tour. Tough to digest for fans at home who have been anticipating a lot about this series.

However, unarguably the most heartwarming and Twitter-breaking moment came from the stands as India and Australia were united as one at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Something which the venue is and should be proud about.
