Archie Lenham, 16, picked up 3-14 to restrict Hampshire to 154/7 after James Vince won the toss and opted to bat. Lenham got Tom Alsop (18), Lewis McManus (15) and Joe Weatherley (14) in successive overs. Vince top-scored with 36 before falling to Will Beer (1-38). James Fuller remained 26 not out (in 16 balls).
Travis Head (23 off 12) then gave Sussex a quickfire start before Ian Holland removed him. Phil Salt (72* off 44) and Ravi Bopara (56* off 42) forged an unbeaten 118-run stand for the second wicket to take them past the finishing line with 22 balls to spare.
