Traditional rivals Lancashire and Yorkshire were up against each other in the Vitality Blast 2021, on Saturday, 17 July.

Lancashire vs Yorkshire, Old Trafford

Brief Scores: Yorkshire 128/7 in 20 overs (Root 32; Wood 4-20) lost to Lancashire 131/6 in 19 overs (Wells 30; Waite 2-17) by 4 wickets with 6 balls to spare.

At Old Trafford, Luke Wood claimed 4-20 to restrict Lancashire to 128/7. Yorkshire stuttered before eventually hunting down the target with an over to spare. The win helped Lancashire climb to the second spot in the points table. Yorkshire slipped to third.

Joe Root won the toss and opted to bat. Yorkshire did not have the best of starts, as they lost both openers for just 11. Wood claimed both the wickets. Root and Harry Brook tried to steady the ship before the latter was bowled by Luke Wells on 22.

Root never managed to get in the groove, and was eventually dismissed by Liam Hurt. He only managed two boundaries in his 37-ball 32. Gary Ballance (31) and Will Fraine (22) dragged Yorkshire to 128/7.

Lancashire started well, but a flurry of wickets after the Powerplay reduced them to 64/5. Finn Allen made 22 off just 8 deliveries, with two fours and as many sixes. Steven Croft and Luke Wells then added 56 runs for the sixth wicket to take the team close to the target.

Wells made 30 off 37, and Croft remained unbeaten on 26 to take Lancashire past the target by the 19th over.
