Here’s a roundup of all the actions on 24 June from Vitality Blast 2020.
Warwickshire vs Derbyshire
Warwickshire 167/9 in 20 overs (Pollock 46; Scrimshaw 3-23) lost to Derbyshire 170/5 in 19.1 overs (Wood 63*; Brathwaite 2-27) by 5 wickets. Player of the Match: Leus du Plooy
Half-centuries from Thomas Wood and Leus du Plooy guided Derbyshire to a five-wicket victory over Derbyshire in the Vitality Blast. Wood remained unbeaten on 63, and du Plooy made 57 off 34 balls. They chased down 168 with five balls to spare.
Warwickshire got off a terrible start, losing four wickets inside the Powerplay. If not for Ed Pollock’s 21-ball 46, things would have much dire for them. They kept losing wickets but Pollock carried on with his own pace before falling to Logan van Beek.
Matthew Lamb and Michael Burgess chipped in with handy contributions before Tim Bresnan’s 34 helped them reach the face-saving total. George Scrimshaw returned 3-23.
Gloucestershire vs Glamorgan
Gloucestershire 216/2 in 20 overs (Phillips 94*; Taylor 1-21) beat Glamorgan 182/8 in 20 overs (Lloyd 44; Ryan Higgins 2-27) by 34 runs. Player of the Match: Glenn Phillips
In a high-scoring clash, Gloucestershire rode on a stunning batting display to defeat Glamorgan by 34 runs. They have now climbed to the top of the points table.
Glamorgan’s attack failed to apply brakes at any point in the game. Miles Hammond (35) and Chris Dent struck (29) at close to 10 an over in the Powerplay. Dent’s dismissal brought Benny Howell to the crease, and he responded with 33-ball 53. But it was Glenn Phillips who stole the show with an unbeaten 94, in just 41 balls.
Chasing 217 proved too much for Glamorgan. They could not sustain the pressure of scoring at the required pace for a longer stretch. David Lloyd’s 44 off 22 was the highest score in the innings.
Middlesex vs Essex
Middlesex 183/2 in 20 overs (Eskinazi 102*; Neesham 1-7) lost to Essex 184/8 in 20 overs (Lawrence 59; Mitchell 3-24) by 2 wickets with 0 ball to spare. Player of the Match: Dan Lawrence
Stevie Eskinazi’s 102 not out was overpowered by a comprehensive batting display from Essex as they chased down 184 on the last ball of the match. Requiring nine off the last over, Essex lost three wickets in the first four deliveries but Simon Harmer held his nerves and hit a boundary on the final ball to guide Essex to a victory.
Dan Lawrence made 59 off 37. Michael Kyle-Pepper and James Neesham too made valuable contributions.
