VVS Laxman's Leadership at NCA Extended as New State-of-the-Art Campus Nears CompletionFormer India batsman VVS Laxman has been granted an extension in his role as the Head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Initially appointed to the position in 2021, Laxman will continue his leadership for at least another year, overseeing a dedicated team of coaches including Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar, all esteemed figures in Indian domestic cricket. Laxman, who was approached for a head coach role in an IPL franchise, has prioritized his responsibilities at the NCA, declining the IPL opportunity.
The extension of Laxman's tenure coincides with the upcoming inauguration of the new, cutting-edge NCA campus on the outskirts of Bengaluru. This state-of-the-art facility, with over 100 pitches, indoor training setups featuring 45 additional pitches, three international-standard grounds, a modern rehabilitation center, accommodation options, Olympic-sized swimming pools, and various other amenities, is nearing completion. It is scheduled to be operational by early 2025, marking a significant milestone for Indian cricket development.
One of the key challenges for Laxman will be to enhance the existing India A tour program initiated during Rahul Dravid's stewardship, amidst a packed international cricket schedule. Throughout his initial three-year term, Laxman focused on refining injury management protocols, player rehabilitation processes, coaching initiatives, and strategic planning for senior, youth, and women's cricket teams. His meticulous attention to detail and strategic vision have set a strong foundation for the NCA's future endeavors. As the NCA prepares to transition to its new premises, Laxman's continued leadership promises to further elevate the standards of cricket development in India, ensuring the holistic growth of the sport across all levels.
