Jason Holder, a veteran all-rounder and former captain of the West Indies, was added to the 13-person roster on Sunday in preparation for the three-match ODI series against India that will start on July 22 in Trinidad.
In order to manage his workload, Holder was rested for the previous home T20I series against Bangladesh. He was recalled for the series against India by the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel, which convened here on Sunday.
"Jason is one of the best all-around cricket players in the world, as we all know, and we're glad to have him back on the team. We can anticipate seeing his brilliance on the field as well as significant contributions off the field since he will be rested, reenergized, and ready to play "Desmond Haynes, the head selector, was cited as saying in a statement issued by Cricket West Indies on Sunday.
After doing effectively with the bat in the T20I series against Bangladesh, Nicholas Pooran will remain the team's captain. Bangladesh defeated West Indies 0-3 while Pooran scored 74 in the third T20I on 39 balls. The team's vice-captain will be Shai Hope.
West Indies will be looking to bounce back from the disastrous Bangladesh series in the ODIs against India, according to Haynes.
"We played three really difficult matches against Bangladesh in Guyana, so we'll be hoping to bounce back against India under the circumstances in Trinidad. Some players have improved, but overall we need to regroup and perform better against the Indians "Haynes threw in.
The three ODI games will take place at the storied Queen's Park Oval on July 22, July 24, and July 27. All games begin at 7:00 pm IST.
