Nkrumah Bonner registered his second international hundred to put the West Indies in a commanding position by the end of Day 3 of the first Test match against England. West Indies finished the day on 373/9, with Veerasammy Permaul and Jayden Seales at the crease. They now lead by 62 runs.
When Jason Holder (45) got out early in the day, England must have fancied their chances of restricting West Indies to a slender lead. Holder's indecision to play or leave a ball just outside off-stump from Ben Stokes cost him his wicket.
Bonner continued to play with patience, and forged a 73-run stand with Joshua Da Silva to move West Indies within inches of England's total. Da Silva struck only one four in his 32 before being dismissed by Jack leach.
Alzarri Joseph holed out to Ollie Pope off Craig Overton in the next over, but Kemar Roach provided the much-needed resistance, playing 89 balls for his 15. However, the scoring rate dropped significantly as Bonner too played cautiously thereafter.
In 90 overs of play, West Indies managed 171 runs and lost five wickets. Bonner eventually fell to Dan Lawrence on 123. West Indies are nine wickets down, and it should not take England long to wrap this up.
Brief scores: England 311 (Jonny Bairstow 140; Jayden Seales 4-79) trail West Indies 373/9 (Nkrumah Bonner 123; Ben Stokes 2-42) by 62 runs.
