Nkrumah Bonner and Jason Holder batted for over 35 overs to keep the English attack at bay and secure a draw for West Indies on Day 5 in Antigua.
Joe Root completed his 24th Test hundred before lunch to give England a sizeable lead. After Holder bowled Zak Crawley for 121, Dan Lawrence showed urgency by hitting four fours and a six in his 36-ball 37. Lawrence and Root fell to Alzarri Joseph in successive overs, and England declared on 394/6, setting West Indies 286 in 71 overs.
Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell added 59 runs in 25 overs before Ben Stokes trapped the former leg-before for 33. West Indies lost three more wickets to Jack Leach on the next 10 overs to find themselves at 67/4.
With more than 25 overs remaining, England needed just six wickets against a collapse-prone West Indies lineup to win this game. But defiance from Bonner (38*) and Holder (37*) quashed all hopes of the visitors.
England 311 (Jonny Bairstow 140; Jayden Seales 3-79) and 349/6 decl. (Zak Crawley 121, Joe Root 109; Alzarri Joseph 3-78) drew with West Indies 375 (Nkrumah Bonner 123; Ben Stokes 2-42) and 147/4 (Nkrumah Bonner 38*; Jack Leach 3-57). Player of the Match: Nkrumah Bonner.
