Rovman Powell hit a 51-ball hundred to help West Indies beat England by 20 runs in the third T20I of the five-match series, at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
Powell’s 53-ball 107, included 10 sixes and four fours, propelled West Indies to 224/5 after Moeen Ali asked them to bat. He added 122 with Nicholas Pooran (70 in 43 balls) for the third wicket after his team was reduced to 48/2 in 5.2 overs. Romario Shepherd (11*) and Kieron Pollard (9*) then chipped in to help their side post the highest T20I total against England.
Barring Adil Rashid (1-25) and Reece Topley (1-30), every England bowler went for over 13 an over. George Garton was the most expensive, returning 1-57, while Liam Livingstone conceded 42 in three overs.
In reply, England got off to a fiery start, courtesy Tom Banton’s 39-ball 73. Banton struck six sixes and three fours to guide his side to 129 in 12.3 overs before falling to Pollard (2-31). Phil Salt then scored a 24-ball 57, including five sixes, to keep them in hunt, but received little support. England closed on 204/9.
With three wickets, Romario Shepherd caused most damage for West Indies, but he conceded 59. Jason Holder and Akeal Hosein took a wicket each, but went for more than 10 an over. Sheldon Cottrell impressed the most, with 1-28.
With 2-1 leading, West Indies will again face England on 29 January at the same venue.
