The second day of the second Test match between West Indies and Pakistan at Sabina Park, Jamaica was completely washed out due to persisting rain and wet outfield.
Pakistan had ended Day 1 on 212/4 after being in lots of trouble early in the innings. A Kemar Roach blast put them on the back foot, but a big partnership from Babar Azam and Fawad Alam led their recovery. Although Babar was dismissed, Fawad retired with cramps, and is likely to return later in the innings.
More rain is predicted on Sunday, which may wash out a considerable chunk of Day 3. However, some cricket may still happen, and both sides will look to take advantage with limited time in hand.
West Indies have to bowl out Pakistan as soon as possible. The bowlers need to maintain the pressure and ensure that the Pakistan lower order does not get easy runs or survive long.
They should also look to bat only once in the match. They will back Kraigg Brathwaite to play the anchor’s role, and expect the batters to score briskly around him to take a sizeable lead.
Pakistan, trailing 0-1, need to score quickly to get in a position where they can declare and send West Indies in with substantial time in hand. But first, they must reach 300.
– Roach is having a memorable series. He can play key role in dismissing the Pakistan lower order cheaply with his pace and accuracy.
– Once the in-form Fawad returns to the crease, he will look for opportunities to score quickly and take this total to 300.
– Mohammad Abbas struck multiple early blows during the West Indies first innings in the first Test.
