A scintillating knock from Lizelle Lee and a late onslaught from Laura Wolvaardt powered South Africa to a convincing 50-run win against West Indies in the second T20I. Lee made 75 to propel South Africa to 165/3, which proved too much for the hosts as none of their batters could convert their starts.

Lee and Dane van Niekerk started briskly. Both smashed boundaries with ease and added 51 for the opening stand. Van Niekerk was on 23 when she holed out to Hayley Matthews off Qiana Joseph.

Marianne Kapp (24) was unable to score freely, but did well to hold the innings and let Lee accelerate. Lee, meanwhile, reached her half-century and added 69 with Kapp for the second wicket. However, they fell within the space of three balls.

The finishing touches came from Wolvaardt, who hit four sixes off the last four balls of the innings en route her 9-ball 33. South Africa posted 165/3.

West Indies hampered their chance by losing regular wickets. None of their batters managed to stay put. Kapp provided the breakthrough, bowling Matthews through the gate. Then Nonkululeko Mlaba got rid of Deandra Dottin to reduce West Indies to 39/2 after the Powerplay.

Kyshona Knight and Chedean Nation played sluggish innings that did not threaten South Africa opponents at any point. Britney Cooper made 26 in 15 balls, but the match had already slipped away.

Kapp finished with three wickets, while Ayabonga Khaka and Mlaba got two each.

Brief scores: South Africa 165/3 in 20 overs (Lizelle Lee 75; Hayley Matthews 2-43) beat West Indies 115/8 in 20 overs (Britney Cooper 26; Marizanne Kapp 3-31) by 50 runs. Player of the Match: Lizelle Lee.
