Keshav Maharaj took a hat trick in his 5-36 to guide South Africa beat West Indies by 158 runs in the second and final Test in St Lucia. Dean Elgar’s men completed a 2-0 series sweep.
Let us have a look at how each of the West Indies players fared in the contest.
Kemar Roach: 6 (M 2, W 9, Ave 17.88, R 42, Ave 14)
Despite two defeats, Roach has been the standout performer for West Indies. He bowled 54.4 overs for his nine wickets at 17.88. This included 4-75 in the second innings of the second Test that triggered a South African collapse.
Kyle Mayers: 5 (M 2, R 59, Ave 14.75, W 6, 13.33)
Mayers was ordinary with the bat, scoring a mere 59 at 14.75. Although he was effective in his 24 overs in the second game, picking up three wickets in each innings.
Jason Holder: 5 (M 2, R 34, Ave 8.5, W6, Ave 24.33, C 6)
Like Mayers, Holder has been off-colour with bat. A player of his calibre, sitting at top of the ICC Test all-rounder rankings, let himself down with 34 runs in four innings. He also bowled 52.5 overs for his six wickets.
Jayden Seales: 4.5 (M 2, W 5, Ave 30.60)
Seales was impressive on his debut series, especially in the first Test, where he returned 3-75 with hostile pace bowling. He bowled 51 overs overall, for five wickets.
Kieran Powell: 3.5 (M 2, R 70, Ave 23.33)
Powell came on as a concussion substitute for Nkrumah Bonner but failed to grab the opportunity. He fell for 14 to Lungi Ngidi in his only innings in the first Test, and scored 5 and 51 in the second.
Roston Chase: 3 (M 2, R 74, Ave 24.66, W 0)
The second-best all-rounder of the side, Chase failed to leave an impact, especially with ball. He bowled 40 overs but still remained wicketless. He did better with bat, top-scoring with 62 in the second innings of the first Test.
Jermaine Blackwood: 3 (M 2, R 88, Ave 22)
Blackwood top-scored for West Indies in the series, but got only 88 runs. He flopped in the first Test, scoring 1 and 13, and then aggregated 74 in the second. However, he did not get much support from the others against the fiery South African seam attack.
Shai Hope: 3 (M 2, R 72, Ave 18, C 4)
Hope failed to come back in style. Despite being a valued member in limited-overs cricket, his Test career has not as impressive since the Headingley heist of 2017. He scored 43 in the first innings of the second Test, but that was about it.
Shannon Gabriel: 2.5 (M 1, W 2, Ave 46.5)
Gabriel played only in the second Test. He got two wickets but went for 4.22 an over.
Rahkeem Cornwall: 2 (M 1, W 1, Ave 61, R 13, Ave 6.5)
Cornwall was featured in the first match, where he bowled 18 overs for a solitary wicket and scored 13 runs across two innings.
Kraigg Brathwaite: 1.5 (M 2, R 29, Ave 7.25, W 1, Ave 24)
Every side expects the captain to set an example, and Brathwaite failed in both matches. An aggregate of 29 runs in four innings is not remotely close to enough. Got a wicket in the second Test.
Nkrumah Bonner: 1 (M 1, R 10, Ave 10)
Bonner scored 10 in his only innings before he was struck on the head.
