Half-centuries from Meg Lanning (93) and Rachael Haynes (86) steered Australia to 327/7 at stumps on Day 1 of the Women’s Ashes Test match at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Lanning and Haynes, who were dropped on 14 and 44 respectively, shared a 169-run stand to rescue Australia from 43/3.
However, England removed the duo, and then dismissed Ash Gardner (56) and Tahlia McGrath (52) just before stumps to finish the day on a high. Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt claimed three wickets each, while Anya Shrubsole had one to her name.
