Adelaide Strikers' unbeaten run in the WBBL 2021 came to an end when they suffered a five-run defeat to Brisbane Heat in Match 14.
Earlier, rain and wet outfield forced the contest to 11 overs a side. The Heat piled up 104/5, courtesy Georgia Redmayne’s 14-ball 28 and Georgia Voll‘s unbeaten 17-ball 31. Darcie Brown did the hat-trick in this innings, dismissing Redmayne, Ellie Johnston and Laura Kimmince in the sixth over.
In reply, Laura Wolvaardt struck five fours and three sixes in a 30-ball 54, but received little support. As a result, the Strikers finished on 99/4. Jess Jonassen and Georgia Prestwidge picked up two wickets each.
Match 15, Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Renegades
Sydney Sixers 118/4 in 20 overs (Perry 50*; Kaur 2-17) lost to Melbourne Renegades 120/3 in 17 overs (Jones 38; Yadav 1-12) by 7 wickets with 18 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Harmanpreet Kaur.
Harmanpreet Kaur starred with ball (2-17) and bat (35* in 29 balls) to help Melbourne Renegades outclass Sydney Sixers by seven wickets in Match 15 of the competition in Launceston.
The Sixers were reduced to 12/3 after being put in. Ellyse Perry (50*) and Nicole Bolton (38) then added 80 for the fourth wicket, but struggled to get going. Angela Reakes scored an unbeaten 9-ball 11 to guide the Sixers finish on 118/4. Sophie Molineux (1-18) and Ella Hayward (0-21) also bowled tightly.
Coming to chase, Eve Jones scored 38 off 30 balls to set the tone for the Renegades. Courtney Webb (23) and Kaur carried the momentum, and reached the target with 18 balls to spare.
Match 16, Perth Scorchers v Sydney Thunder
Perth Scorchers 186/2 in 20 overs (Devine 101; Wong 1-24) beat Sydney Thunder 105/9 in 20 overs (Litchfield 24; King 4-11) by 81 runs. Player of the Match: Sophie Devine.
Sophie Devine’s 60-ball 101, laced with six sixes and eight fours, steered Perth Scorchers to an 81-run win against Sydney Thunder in Match 16. Devine and Beth Mooney (65) added 173 for the opening wicket to help the Scorchers pile up 186/2 after they were asked to bat. Issy Wong and Hannah Darlington claimed a wicket each.
In reply, the Thunder struggled to reach 105/9. Phoebe Litchfield top-scored in this total, with a 34-ball 24. With 4-11, Alana King was the pick of the Scorchers bowlers.
