Birmingham Phoenix 128/6 in 100 balls (Jones 47; Dottin 2-28) lost to London Spirit 132/7 in 96 balls (Dattani 34; Burns 2-15) by 3 wickets with 4 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Evelyn Jones.
London Spirit began their campaign with a three-wicket win against Birmingham Phoenix, in Match 2 of the 2021 Women’s Hundred, at Edgbaston. Chasing 129, Spirit were in control at 108/3, thanks to Naomi Dattani’s quickfire 19-ball 33. They needed 21 runs from 23 balls at this point.
But Phoenix picked up three wickets in four balls without conceding any run to roar back into the contest. They got Chloe Tryon (9), Susie Rowe and Deepti Sharma (28) during this short period. Amara Carr (11*) and Danielle Gibson (8* in 2) then ensured Spirit’s victory with four balls to spare.
Despite the result, Phoenix’s Evelyn Jones was adjudged Player of the Match for her 41-ball 47. She and Amy Jones (33* in 17) helped their team finish at 128/6 after being invited to bat. Deandra Dottin was the pick of the Spirit bowlers, with 2-28.
