Southern Brave continued their red-hot form in the Women’s Hundred with a 30-run win over second-placed Oval Invincibles, in Match 30 of the season, in Southampton. The Brave had already booked their place in the final by securing the top spot; they finished the league stage with seven wins and one defeat.
On a hybrid pitch at The Rose Bowl, Brave put on a competitive 115/3 after Dane van Niekerk won the toss and asked them to bat. At No. 3, Sophia Dunkley was the star of the show: she hit seven fours and a six in her unbeaten 39-ball 58. Stafanie Taylor (23 in 26 balls) played second fiddle to Dunkley as the pair added 76 for the third wicket.
Tash Farrant (2-22) and Alice Capsey (1-9) were among wickets for the Invincibles, while Marizanne Kapp (0-8) bowled tightly in the Powerplay.
Coming to defend, Amanda-Jade Wellington spun a web around Invincibles batters, returning 4-12, the best bowling figures in the Women’s edition so far. She was ably assisted by Lauren Bell (3-22) as they wrapped Invincibles up for just 85 with six balls to spare. Van Niekerk (31) and her wife Kapp (26) were the only batters to reach double digits.
