Let us take a look at the highlights of Match 31 of the inaugural edition of Women’s Hundred that took place on 17 August.
Northern Superchargers v Birmingham Phoenix, Headingley
Birmingham Phoenix 147/4 in 100 balls (Jones 64; Levick 2-23) beat Northern Superchargers 133/6 in 100 balls (Winfield-Hill 64; Wong 2-24) by 14 runs. Player of the Match: Eve Jones.
Birmingham Phoenix knocked Northern Superchargers out of the Women’s Hundred, while securing their own place in the Eliminator with a 14-run win in Match 31 of the season.
On a flat Headingley pitch, opener Eve Jones hit six fours and three sixes in her 47-ball 64 to take Phoenix to 147/4. She was ably assisted by Amy Jones (24 in 11 balls) and Erin Burns (28* in 22). Katie Levick was the pick of the Superchargers bowlers, with 2-23.
Coming to the chase in a must-win encounter, Lauren Winfield-Hill (64 in 38) stroked 11 fours in her blazing knock before Izzy Wong (2-24) got her with the 61st ball of the innings.
The Originals, 97/2 at this point, had the target well under control, but they lost the plot after Winfield-Hill’s departure, and ended up posting 133/6. Laura Wolvaardt made 32 in 26 balls.
Phoenix finished third in the points table, with eight points (four wins and as many defeats), while Superchargers ended their campaign at sixth place, with seven points. Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets have also finished the season on seven, but they are stationed ahead of the Superchargers due to a better net run rate.
