Fifties from Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt helped Southern Brave clinch a 39-run win over Welsh Fire in Match 25 of the Women’s Hundred, in Southampton. With this, the Brave booked their place in the final, with six wins from the opening seven league games.
Mandhana (78 runs in 52 balls) and Wyatt (53 in 34) forged 107 for the opening wicket to lay the platform for Brave after Sophie Luff won the toss and asked them to bat. Sophia Dunkley (23* off 12) then played a breezy cameo to help them reach 166/3, the highest total in the Women’s edition. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the Fire bowlers, with 2-27.
Coming to defend, Anya Shrubsole and Lauren Bell bowled accurately in the Powerplay to keep things tight. The Fire could not able to shift the gear at any point during the chase. Despite batting full 100 balls, they finished on 127/4. Georgia Redmayne top-scored with 35 not out.
