BCCI president Sourav Ganguly stated that a mini Women’s IPL is on track, ending speculation about the immediate future of the Indian women’s team.
The IPL is scheduled to be held in the UAE from September 19 to November 8 due to the rise in coronavirus cases in the country.
“I can confirm to you that the women’s IPL is very much on and we do have a plan in place for the national team also,” Ganguly told PTI ahead of the IPL Governing Council meeting later on Sunday.
The former Indian skipper also added that the women cricketers are likely to have a camp before the women’s IPL, which is expected to be held from November 1 to 8. Reports also suggest that the Indian Eves will play a short limited overs series against South Africa in October, followed by a series against the West Indies. The Women’s ODI World Cup will be held in New Zealand next year.
“We couldn’t have exposed any of our cricketers – be it male or female to health risk. It would have been dangerous,” Ganguly said.
“The NCA also remained shut because of Covid-19. But we have a plan in place and we will have a camp for women, I can tell you that.”
However, with the Women’s Big Bash League running from October 17 to November 29, it remains to be seen if international cricketers, many of whom already have contracts in the WBBL participate in the women’s IPL.
