Velocity won their opening match of the Women’s T20 Challenge, thanks to fifties from Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt. However, Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Supernovas was the Player of the Match for her 51-ball 71 and two catches.
Batting first Supernovas were reduced to 18/3 inside four overs. Kate Cross gave the first blow, while Deepti Sharma dismissed Deandra Dottin. Taniya Bhatia and Kaur later stabilised the innings, adding 82 before Bhatia fell for 36. Kaur found another partner in Sune Luus who scored an unbeaten 20 off 14. Kaur smashed three sixes and seven fours before Radha Yadav had her stumped. However, it was her stunning effort that helped Supernovas reach 150/5 at the end of 20 overs. Cross was the most successful bowler for Velocity with 2-24.
In reply, Velocity lost Natthakan Chantham quickly, but Verma came up with a 33-ball 51 to provide the start her team required. Wolvaardt remained not out for 51 off 31, along with Deepti Sharma (24*), to win the match for Velocity. Dottin was the most successful bowler for Supernovas with 2-21 in 3.2 overs.
