New Zealand won their third match, against India, by 62 runs to move to second place on the points table of the 2022 Women's World Cup. Amelia Kerr's all-round show was supported by Amy Satterthwaite with bat and Lea Tahuhu with ball as New Zealand beat India for the fifth time in six ODIs.
Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to bowl as India brought in Yastika Bhatia for Shafali Verma. New Zealand were unchanged.
Pooja Vastrakar ran out Suzie Bates for just five early in the match, but fifties from Satterthwaite (75) and Amelia Kerr (60) kept New Zealand going. At one stage they even threatened to reach 300. A late flurry of wickets, mostly by Vastrakar (4-34), restricted them to 260/9, largely because Katey Martin held the innings together with 41.
Vastrakar got both Satterthwaite and Sophie Devine as well as a couple of late wickets with some yorkers. Rajeshwari Gayakwad had 2-46, figures that could have been better had India held on to their catches.
India began slowly as New Zealand bowlers maintained the pressure. Smriti Mandhana went early, caught by Bates at cover for just six off Jess Kerr. Lea Tahuhu bowled with control to send back Deepti Sharma and Yastika Bhatia. She returned 6-2-7-2 in her first spell, and eventually finished with 10-2-17-3.
India crawled to 50 in first 20 overs. Mithali Raj struggled during her 56-ball 31 before Amelia Kerr provided a double blow, sending Raj and Richa Ghosh with consecutive balls. By the 40th over, India were 140/6, needing more than 120 runs in last 10 overs.
Harmanpreet Kaur, their last hope, got to her 50 in 54 balls and took Jess Kerr for 20 in the 43rd over. She fell next over, to by Jess’ sister Amelia. Her 63-ball 71 made India's net run rate look better than it might have. They were eventually dismissed for 198 in the 47th over, when Hayley Jansen picking up the last two wickets with consecutive balls.
