Delhi Capitals' head coach, Jonathan Batty, has expressed excitement ahead of the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) player auction. The auction will feature 409 players, including 246 Indian cricketers, 163 overseas players (including eight from associate nations), 202 capped players, and 199 uncapped players. A total of 90 slots are available with the five teams, with 30 reserved for overseas players.
Batty stated that the Delhi Capitals team had worked on their auction strategy and was utilizing the knowledge of staff members who had previously worked on numerous IPL auctions. He also highlighted that the WPL will give Indian domestic players the opportunity to showcase their skills on a global platform.
Delhi Capitals' assistant coach, Hemlata Kala, added that the support staff had held meetings to discuss player combinations and targets for the auction. She also noted that the league would have a positive impact on the earnings and future opportunities of upcoming women's cricketers in India.
The inaugural Women's Premier League will comprise 22 matches and take place from March 4-26, 2023, across the Brabourne Stadium and D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
