Zimbabwe have lost the only Test by 220 runs, and followed it with a 155-run defeat in the first ODI. Both defeats tell a story of an all-round dominance from Bangladesh. But on both occasions, Zimbabwe had a key moment to turn the match on its head; they could not.
Their bowlers pushed the opponents on the back foot, but their batters failed to capitalise. In the opening ODI, Blessing Muzarabani provided breakthroughs, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 74/4. Richard Ngarava was a perfect foil for Muzarabani in the opening spell.
However, their spinners have failed to make any impact. Ryan Burl and Wesley Madhevere struggled to get their line and length right, and failed to pose problems to the batters.
On the contrary, spinners played a crucial role in both wins for Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan has struggled with the bat, but he has easily been Bangladesh’s most lethal weapon. He picked up 5-30 in the last game.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is an equally threatening prospect. On the pace bowling front, Shoriful Islam is likely to retain his place until Mustafizur Rahman gets fully fit.
